Lifeguarding Courses
Posted by Administrator on Tuesday, 14 July 2015Nick Mulcahy will be running a number of courses in preparation for the upcoming surf lifeguarding season. It would be appreciated if you could please register your interest with Nick prior to the commencement of any course. He is encouraging everyone to consider upskilling this season, by completing at least one course.
IRB Crewpersons Module: Nick is looking to organise an exam for Sunday 23 August at Titahi Bay, or elsewhere as required. If you were involved in the training Nick held towards the end of last season please bring your manual and workbook along. If not, you will be provided with a manual and workbook at the first session. He encourages all qualified surf lifeguards to attend this training.
- Wednesday 12 August 6:30pm - 8:00pm
- Sunday 16 August 9:00am - 4:00pm
- Wednesday 19 August 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Senior Lifeguard IRB Driver: To participate in this training you will be required to have completed the IRB Crewpersons Module (above), and be at least 16 years of age. In addition, all participants are encouraged to attend the Capital Coast IRB Development Weekend, which will be held at Riversdale Beach from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October.
- Sunday 30 August 2:00pm - 4:00 pm
- Every Sunday thereafter until the required skills have been acquired.
Surf Lifeguard Award: The training will be held at Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club, with some sessions at Porirua Aquatic Centre. The first exam will be held on Saturday 31 October. If you are aware of any family or friends who would like to join the club and complete this award, please pass these details on to them and encourage them to attend the first session at Titahi Bay SLSC (Wednesday 26 August).

- Sunday 30 August 4:00pm - 6:00pm
- Every Wednesday and Sunday thereafter until Wednesday 28 October.
A number of other courses are also being run throughout the Capital Coast including, the Instructors Award course on Saturday 26 September and the Senior Lifeguard Award - Patrol Captain course on Saturday 14 November. If you would like to attend any of these courses please let Nick know.
Finally, with the patrolling season fast approaching Nick will be looking to put the patrol roster together in the next few months; patrols will begin on Saturday 28 November. As such, Nick would like anyone who is interested in being a Patrol Captain or Vice Patrol Captain this season to express their interest with him, either verbally or via email by Friday 31 July.
