Wil's A Crew secure NZ Team spotPosted by Administrator on Friday, 6 December 2019
Titahi Bay SLSC have proved they're back this season and hungry for another shot at taking the Trans-Tasman title ahead of their Aussie counterparts.
The Open Women's crew (dubbed 'Wil's A Crew) has been selected as the New Zealand Open Women's crew to race against the best Australian Open Women's crew in February 2020 in Sydney. Racing will take place during Australia’s premier surf boat event, the ASRL Open, an event bringing in over 3000 competitors, supporters and event officials, and is the biggest stand-alone surf boat racing event in Australia.
Crew members include five-time NZ sweep Wil McDowell who boasts an impressive record on the national surf boat scene in New Zealand and has swept Open Men, Open Women and Development Men's crews at five Trans-Tasman Challenges so far. Experience sweeping crews at several NSW beaches will be on Wil's side as they take on the competition at Mollymook Beach this time around.
Tracey Mills (2nd stroke) pulls on the silver fern for the third time, having raced in the Women's Development crew in 2016 and the Open Women's crew in 2019. Stroke Moira MacDonald has stepped into the open division after racing in the Women's Development crew in 2019. Seasoned rower Sinead Clark will experience international racing for the first time this season in the bow seat, while new recruit Lisa McIvor in the 2nd bow seat will no doubt be eager to soak up the experience of others in the crew and the wider surf boat community at Titahi Bay SLSC.
